How To: Lose That Food Baby

“Nothing succeeds like excess.” Is this quote in reference to the holidays? Nope. Is it applicable to Thanksgiving? YES.

With Thanksgiving break being my first time back home for the school year, I’ve learned over the past two years at school to appreciate my time at home with my family ( and refrigerator ). You can bet that I was day dreaming about my mom’s secret stuffing when I was studying for my last two midterms!

However, this year we decided to change up our tradition. We attended a Thanksgiving lunch and went… BUFFET STYLE! It was a dream come true.

Not all heroes wear capes- some do in fact wear a chef hat and serve turkey.

With rumbling stomachs, my family and I eagerly waited in line with our plates ready to be filled with turkey doused in gravy and sweet potatoes sprinkled with brown sugar. The moment we reached the front of the line, there was no going back. Spoons were flying from one plate to another and our plates weighed heavy. We scurried back to our table as we broke proper lunch etiquette by eating the food with our hands…

*Gasp*

This is the day we have been waiting for. With no breath in between, we gobbled down every bite off our plates in record time. One plate down and in the wise words of DJ Khaled, the Gorski clan went to the buffet for “anotha one!” Finally, we topped off our stacks of plates with dessert!

“Stuffing” our stomachs to capacity meant that we would be spending the rest of the day and night horizontal on the couch in our food-coma. That is when the food baby made an appearance.

A food baby is described on Urban Dictionary as “a bloated, enlarged, or extremely full abdominal region after having eaten an exorbitant amount of food. Food babies generally cause discomfort and possible gas or embarrassment, but are unavoidable on occasions such as Thanksgiving”.

How exactly would one birth their way into recovery from this Thanksgiving pregnancy? Try some of these tips!

Don’t Beat Yourself Up!

The holidays are the time to indulge. What other time of the year will you have access to endless pumpkin pie? Treat yourself!

Go for a walk!

Sure- watching The Office as a couch potato is the easier route, but if your food baby is causing you great discomfort, take a stroll around the block!

Chug H2O!

All of those salty dishes and alcohol beverages will dehydrate your body. Switch every other drink with a glass of water to avoid dehydration.

HIIT workout!

This one you will probably have to hold off until the next day. HIIT stands for “high intensity interval training”. My favorite HIIT workout is either sprinting for 30 seconds then jogging for 30 seconds for a total of 15 minutes on the treadmill or the stair master. Think of those bread rolls as your “carb loading” for this workout!

Give Into The ZZZ’s!

The amino acid, tryptophan, which is found in turkey is rumored to leave you feeling tired along with those glasses of wine. Rest up for the next day to avoid feeling sluggish and tired.

Who wants some pie?!!

Whipped cream with a side of pumpkin pie please!
