Do you believe me?? 😉
We all know that meat is a FABULOUSSS source of protein! We NEED protein for building and maintaining muscle mass!
But more isn’t necessarily better.
According to the American Heart Association, consuming less meat decreases the risk of:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Obesity
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Type 2 diabetes
- Many cancers
This isn’t to say that you need to eliminate all meat from your diet! Rather, let’s be mindful of how much we eat!
I recently started experimenting with this magical fruit, JACKFRUIT!
Have you heard of it?
Jackfruit grows in tropical areas of Southeast Asia, Brazil, and Africa. This trendy fruit doesn’t have a “fruity” taste; it is fairly neutral. Jackfruit has a stringy consistency which makes it the perfect candidate for BBQ “pork!”
Unlike pork, it contains very minimal protein and no saturated fat or cholesterol.
NOT MUCH PROTEIN?? Hear me out on this.
Here’s what you do. This is for all of my volume eaters out there…
Make this jackfruit BBQ recipe then mix it into your BBQ pork for more volume, more nutrition, and fewer calories!
Recipe:
- 1, 20 oz can (1 lb 4 oz) jackfruit
- 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
- 1/3-1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- EVOO
Instructions:
- Drain and rinse jackfruit
- In a pan, saute onion with olive oil
- Add in BBQ sauce and 1/4-1/3 cup water to prevent BBQ sauce from thickening
PRO TIPS:
- Choose a BBQ sauce with at most 7 grams of sugar/2 Tablespoons
- Pair your BBQ jackfruit/pork with an AHTK high fiber bagel or muffin!
ENJOY MY LOVIES!!
